HOME EGVA has recently contracted with Eastchester school district and Pelham school district to develop their China programs. This includes:In January 2011, Pelham will receive its first Chinese visiting teacher from Liaoning Shiyan High School, co-delivering learning units in the 6th grade’ social-studies course. In April 2011, twenty Eastchester teachers and students will visit China for learning and development. In June 2011, twenty teachers from the Lower Westchester County will go to China as part of their professional development program.In early the first quarter of 2011, EGVA will complete its very first “"online course" conducted by its partner in Hong Kong (Kingsgate Education). This education will have enabled US students to learn about Chinese history, culture and current events.On January 19, 2011 we (Sarah) participated in a Liaoning Province-wide news conference in China (delivering simultaneous translation) to announce the strategic alliance between Liaoning Shiyan High School and Kaplan Higher Education China, a relationship that EGVA helped to initiate a year ago. As a result of this alliance, EGVA has been contracted to conduct education consulting services with Shiyan-Kaplan International Programs in leadership development and professional training.In the US, EGVA will publish “The Practice of Professional Consulting”, a book that covers the knowledge, skills and behavior needed by employees in modern consulting companies. In Europe EGVA is launching a consulting curriculum of training programs which will train consultants with required skills needed at different levels of a consulting career.

ABOUT E.G. Verlander & Associates (EGVA) was founded in 1993 by Dr. Edward G. Verlander who envisioned creating extraordinary educational experiences for individuals in organizations so that the learning impact would be significant and immediate. In the early years, EGVA focused its services primarily on management consulting and organizational development in the corporate world. Its market growth was reflected in its international client base, covering Europe, Latin America, and Southeast Asia, as well as across the United States and Canada. In the last two decades, EGVA enjoyed rapid growth and accumulated wide experience in a range of industries, serving both for-profit and non-profit organizations. The company has developed expertise in information technology (IT), hospital management, manufacturing, consulting, and education. Since 2005 and with the support of local, long-term trusted partners, EGVA expanded its educational practice (i.e. CBE) in Europe focusing on IT clients who need to improve their consulting skills. In 2007, EGVA started a new strategic direction. Based on market research, the company’'s strategy expanded to include providing support to the emerging reforms underway in the education sector in China. The company developed a new focus and started to channel additional resources into training Chinese educational leaders about education leadership, teaching methods and administrative systems of education in the United States and Europe. As a result of its education consulting strategy, EGVA has built several strategic alliances in China, gained a market base, and recently opened its China office in the city of Shenyang, all to better serve the growing demand. It has also developed strong working relationships with headmasters in public and private schools in the UK and US, as well as faculty from major research universities such as U Penn, Columbia, and Stony Brook University in New York. Over the last two years EGVA has consulted with bureaus of education in China, delivered leadership development programs for school Principals, and provided professional training for teachers. Between 2008 and 2010 we completed a dozen, two/three-week training programs in the USA and served almost 500 individuals from various educational institutions across China. Principals

The leadership training program for school Principals is designed to provide school administrators and principals with a mix of theory and methods-based classroom training and the experience of on-site institutional visits. Participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas with the US colleagues and to build collaborative relationships.

The training is delivered by US university professors from top-ranked universities who are leaders in their respective educational disciplines. The program aims to (1) broaden school leaders’ perspectives in western education methods and practices, and (2) enhance individuals’ own leadership abilities and skills.

Programs are customized to meet particular needs and generally run two to three weeks. The program is particularly beneficial for people who are in leadership positions or interested in becoming principals in the near future.

TeachersStaff

Teachers/Staff

The teachers/staff professional development program is designed for experienced teachers who are interested in learning about new ways to improve students’ learning. Different teaching methods are discussed and practiced in the training program.

Teachers/Staff are encouraged to participate in small groups and practice among themselves. Western approaches are introduced to generate discussions for its adaptability and practicality in the Chinese learning context. Teachers are encouraged to think critically about both the US and the Chinese way of teaching, and then form creative solutions to improve their own teaching methods.

The program uses the “new” methods in its design and delivery, includes theory, practice, and observation, and is best for experienced teachers who are looking for new ways of teaching beyond standardized testing.

Students

Students Short-Term Training

The program for students is typically offered in the summer. The program includes (1) oral English improvement, (2) culture experience, and (3) leadership development. Students have opportunities to meet and interact with American students of similar age. In the training program students are asked to play different roles in a small group setting to learn about cooperation and collaboration skills with peers.

The program is taught only in English without translation. Students who want to participate in the program must have sufficient oral English skills. The program combines university visits, meeting with admission officers, and social activities. Hence, the program is best suited for students who are interested in studying aboard at an English speaking school in the near future.

Teacher Exchange

Short-term Teachers Exchange

Through our network of schools, we help organizations and individual teachers to find suitable exchange opportunities to strength teachers’' individual professional development. These exchange experiences are designed so that teachers can make a contribution immediately upon returning to their home schools. At the same time, the hosting school will be able to broaden their students’ learning resources without extra financial burden or having to make a long-term commitment.

EGVA organizes short-term teaching exchange initiatives for teachers in China and the USA. We help both schools to carefully develop sensible plans, subject teaching areas, and living arrangements so that both the hosting school and the exchange teacher will maximize their experience and foster long-term collaboration.

Ms. Yue Yang is currently visit Pelham Middle School in New York. Her daily activities include teaching the sixth grade students and observing lessons as part of her professional development expereince.

SQW Sarah Q. WangMs. Wang joined EGVA in 2007. Shortly after earning her MBA she became the firm's managing partner in charge of developing and driving EGVA's China business and operations. She specializes in professional development and Chinese educational reform, working on various educational leadership initiatives in conjunction with Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania. Sarah is from Shenyang in northeastern China, and immigrated to the United States in 1998 as an high school exchange student. She is bilingual, holds a BS degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance, earned an MBA from C.W. Post, Long Island University, and an MA degree in Social-Organizational Psychology from Teachers College, Columbia University. She is now working on her interdisciplinary doctoral studies in education leadership at Teachers College, conducting cross-cultural, comparative reserach in Sino-US education collaboration.Before joining EGVA, she worked as a Project Manager in New York in the manufacturing industry, and subsequently became Director of Project Management. She has knowledge and experience in Kaizen, manufacturing operations, and value-chain management. She also provides coaching services helping individuals transform their perspectives to pursue possibilities in their lives. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys traveling and spending time with family and friends.

EGV Edward G. VerlanderDr. Verlander is the founder and chairman of EGVA. Edward Verlander specializes in leadership development, executive coaching, and management training. In addition to corporate consulting, he is an adjunct professor of management at the College of Business, Stony Brook University. He has also taught at Columbia University, Hofstra University, and Long Island University, as well as at Jilin University and Nanjing University in China.Since 1980, Dr. Verlander has consulted throughout the world for Fortune 500 clients including all levels of management in a diverse range of industries. Business function consulting includes Sales and Marketing, Finance, IT, HR, and Manufacturing. He has worked throughout the United States and Europe, in the Caribbean, China, Central and South America, India, the Middle East and Southeast AsiaBorn in England, Edward now lives in Setauket, New York. He earned a B.Sc., an MBA degree from the University of Connecticut, and masters and doctoral degrees from Columbia University. He also completed the Executive Program at the Columbia Business School and is certified to use various psychological and diagnostic instruments. His book: The Practice of Professional Consulting is scheduled for publication in the spring, 2011.

EB Elmar BushinglerMr. Bushlinger has been Dr Verlander’s colleague for over fifteen years. Since 2007, Elmar has become EGVA's partner in Europe, where he leads various business development strategies in the high-tech industry regions of Germany. He works with EGVA to help IT clients gain new knowledge and skills in consulting thereby enabling them in turn, to be more effective in creating solutions for their customers. Formerly CEO of a highly successful software development company, Elmar currently serves on numerous corporate Boards in Germany, advising company C-level teams on venture capital initiatives, marketing, strategic management, operational processes, structure, and leadership.A graduate in computer science from the University of Karlsruhe, he is a renowned leader of the information technology industry in the Karlsruhe regional technology cluster.

TJP Tim ParkinsonMr. Parkinson is EGVA's partner in Hong Kong. He's former head of economics at Winchester College, a well-known independent boarding school for boys founded in 1387. He grauated from Oxford University with BA and MA degress in Politics, Philosophy and Economics and later received a MSc. in computer science from University of Greenwich.Tim has over 20 years of teaching expereince, and has taught subjects including economics, German, modern history, and critical thinking in Winchester College.Now he's based in Hong Kong, runs Kingsgate Education, delivering a range of educational programs (both in-person and on-line) to students and teachers in China and around the world.Tim speaks multiple languages, including Mandarin. He is a licensed pilot, enjoys reading, traveling, and essay writing.

JYH Yinghua Jin (Jean)Jean is our strategic partner in the city of Shenyang, Liaoning Province, northeast China. She's the head of Shiyan-Kaplan International Programs and many years of experience in school design and development, leadership training.Jean owns two private schools (one primary and one K-12) in China and also runs an education development consultancy in Shenyang. Derailer Coaching. Professional Development PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENTFocus: Professional development at EGVA provides training and development for managers as well as non-managerial employees. Our programs and workshops are practical and of immediate value and we tailor the concepts, tools, techniques and strategies to the jobs and roles of each workshop topic. Examples: We offer a dozen training programs in standard format, and each can be customized to meet the specific needs and preferences of customers. Studying Aboard, College Counselling

In China there is an increasing recognition of the importance and benefit of global awareness, traveling abroad and experiencing overseas education. Consequently, a growing number of Chinese parents are now looking to send their children to study abroad. Some families start the process even before children reach high school.

EGVA is strategically located in New York, the home of many excellent universities ranging from Ivy League to reasonably priced college choices. New York State (along with California) has the largest state university system in the US, many levels to suit various academic abilities, and hundreds of subjects to suit students’ diverse needs. Many colleges offer ESL programs for students to improve their English once admitted.

EGVA will coach students on the application process, help students to select the best university possible, introduce students to the US college culture so they are aware of schools’ expectations. While we cannot guarantee admission, our admission support services ensure success.
